The Los Angeles County TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the LA County Board of Supervisors used its emergency powers to establish much needed, but only temporary tenant protections for all 88 municipalities and unincorporated areas in LA County.

But the housing and homelessness crises have only gotten worse! We need our elected officials to protect renters, stabilize our neighborhoods, and Keep LA Housed!

Every tenant in Los Angeles County has a right to affordable, secure, and habitable housing free from harassment and discrimination. We demand an LA Tenant Bill of Rights (TBOR)!

You can download our zine below to learn more about TBOR or check out this map to see your rights as a tenant in your community!

OUR TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS INCLUDES:

  • Rent stabilization to the maximum extent allowed by state law.

  • Relocation assistance for tenants displaced for no fault of their own.

  • Removal of discriminatory barriers to housing access.

  • Effective tenant anti-harassment protections.

  • Safeguards when landlords attempt to buyout tenants.

  • Codified right to counsel for tenants facing eviction.

  • Limits on evictions for failure to pay rent.

  • Strong proactive code enforcement.

  • Universal just cause eviction protections.

MAPPING The TENANT BILL OF RIGHTS

The Keep LA Housed Coalition and Anti-Eviction Mapping Project created an interactive map that allows users to look at how many policies in TBOR have been enacted by all 88 cities in and unincorporated areas of LA County.
